Come drink the extinct! Start out DC Beer Week with a taste of and talk on the beer your great grandparents drank. On Sunday August 20, at Gordon Biersch Navy Yard 100 M St SE, Washington, DC 20003, event starts at 6:30 with two rare and exquisite beers offered alongside appetizers at a steal for $15.
Pale and dark pre-prohibition lagers are available at the Gordon Biersch Navy Yard. Pale: DC Brau's Heurich's Lager, a beer first brewed in the 1870s and produced into the 1950s. Dark: Gordon Biersch Rockville's Potomac Porter, a porter brewed with lager yeast, sometimes called Pennsylvania Porter," this beer was historically a product with an English name, manufactured by German immigrants in English breweries.
Did you know that Anheuser-Busch ran a bottling plant on Virginia Avenue, SW? Or that Schlitz owned a bottling plant in Eckington? Start off DC Beer Week with an exhuming of old beer and the historic breweries as we serve some of the best pre-prohibition style beer.
