DRAWING IN SPACE INTENSIVE

This fast-paced, three-session intensive will investigate relationships between object, space, time, and illusion. Each student will create an immersive site-specific installation starting from a drawing using symbols selected from current events, personal experience and/or their imagination. We will consider color, line, composition, pattern and texture in the use of our installations as we navigate moving from two- to three-dimensions. Class discussion will center on topics such as the history of installation art, sculpture, photography, perspectival space, collage, commercial display, and theater. You will have the option to use your final installation as a site for interaction, performance, photography, or participation.

Lisa Rybovich Crallé is an interdisciplinary artist based in the SF Bay Area. Her installations and collaborative performance projects incorporate elements of drawing, painting, and sculpture to explore relationships between utility, futility, and play.

Lisa received an MFA from the University of California, Davis in 2011 and a BA from Sarah Lawrence College in 2004. Her work has been exhibited in the US and abroad, including the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts (San Francisco), the Berkeley Art Museum (Berkeley), the Manetti Shrem Museum (Davis, CA), Verge Center for the Arts (Sacramento), Weekend (LA), Field Projects (NYC), Roots & Culture (Chicago) and the Dublin City Gallery (Ireland).

What is the refund policy?

What materials (if any) will I need to bring to class?
Each course requires specific materials that we ask you bring to your first class session so you can get started making right away. Materials lists are available approximately two weeks prior to the course start date. Visit the SFAI website here, click on your course title, and then click on the blue "Materials List" link underneath the course dates. If you have any questions regarding materials, please contact Public Education Staff.

What are my transport/parking options getting to San Francisco Art Institute?
All classes meet at 800 Chestnut Street, between Jones and Leavenworth. You can find directions to campus on the SFAI website.

SFAI is located in a residential neighborhood, and free two-hour parking is available on all of the streets immediately surrounding the school. The two-hour restriction cuts off at 9 pm, so evening Public Education students do not need to move their car, unless you arrive prior to 7 pm.

SFAI is easily accessible via public transportation, with Muni bus lines #30 Stockton, and #47 Van Ness located within a few blocks of campus.
