Practicing Safe Data: A Roundtable Discussion

There has been a tectonic shift in how we as development and humanitarian actors think about the ethical use of data, and many organizations and institutions have taken strides to identify best practices in this emerging space. For example:

<LI>USAID is poised to release guidance on their responsible data work, previewed here: <A HREF="https://www.usaid.gov/digital-development/responsible-data/introduction" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">https://www.usaid.gov/digital-development/responsible-data/introduction</A>.</LI>
<LI>Oxfam, CRS and other InterAction members have been engaged in developing capacity around responsible data collection and use for some time now.</LI>
<LI>ICRC is completing a revision of the <A HREF="https://www.icrc.org/eng/assets/files/other/icrc-002-0999.pdf" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Professional Standards for Protection Work</A>, with a brand new chapter on “managing data and information for protection outcomes.”</LI>
</UL>
Meanwhile, new policies like the EU GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) is set to enter into force--with potential financial implications for members that collect data on EU citizens--in May 2018.  
InterAction invites you to join a roundtable discussion where we will explore the frontier of responsible data, data protection, and compliance with data regulations. The roundtable will be moderated by Linda Raftree, lead organizer of MERL Tech and co-founder of Technology Salon.
