About Dr. Gary L. Harris

Dr. Gary L. Harris was a distinguished figure at Howard University, where he served in various capacities, including as the dean of the Graduate School and associate provost for research. He played a pivotal role in launching the Black Blockchain Summit, a significant annual event held at Howard University, where industry leaders convene to explore the potential of blockchain technology. Dr. Harris was celebrated not only for his academic achievements, such as becoming one of the first African-Americans to earn a Ph.D. in electrical engineering-electro-physics from Cornell University but also for his dedication to mentoring and advising numerous master's and Ph.D. graduates.

Beyond academia, Dr. Harris was a passionate advocate for science education, using various media outlets to promote the importance of science, engineering, and technology. His legacy also includes the creation of the NanoExpress, a mobile laboratory designed to inspire scientific curiosity in students of all ages. Dr. Harris's contributions to Howard University and his commitment to advancing science education will be remembered fondly, and the university plans to hold a ceremony in his honor at a later date.
