ART CAMP

Inspiration awaits! Take a trip to Centennial Village to be an artist for the morning. New theme daily. Campers may register for more than one day in each session. Be sure to wear weather-appropriate clothing, the days may be hot or rainy. Wear clothing that is best suited to working with glue, paint, etc.

For Ages 8-14*

Instructor: Lora Schaunaman, Professional Artist

“Draw, paint and try exciting new art projects each day of Art Camp!”

Camp will be held 9AM to 12NOON each day.

  • Session I: June 10, 11, 12, 13
  • Session II: June 17, 18, 20, 21

*Campers must be at least 8 years old by July 1st.

Bottled water and a healthy snack will be provided.

HISTORY CAMP

How did the Pioneers live? Experience pioneer life with old-time chores, cooking over a campfire, old-fashioned games & more! Campers may register for one day per session/week, if desired.

(NOTE: REVISED DATES FOR 2024, Times are changing in 2025 to 9am-1pm)

For Ages 7-13*

Instructor: Sherri Rawstern & Kristin Boeshans, Curators of Education

Camp will be held 9AM to 3PM each day.

Week 1 Theme: Explore the Village!
July 10-12 (suggested age groups)

  • Wed. July 10- (7-9)
  • Thur. July 11 - (9-11)
  • Fri. July 12- (11-13)

Week 2 Theme: Old Time Fun!
July 17-19 (suggested age groups)

  • Wed. July 17 - (7-9)
  • Thur. July 18 - (9-11)
  • Fri. July 19 - (11-13)

*Campers must be at least 7 years old by July 1st.

Camper must bring a sack lunch. Bottled water and old-fashioned snacks will be provided.

If the heat index exceeds 100 degrees, history camp will end at 1PM.

SPY CAMP - MUSEUM CAMP

In conjunction with the DPM's summer traveling exhibit, "Spies & Space" this year's Museum Camp (at the DPM) is all about espionage and spycraft.

For Ages 7-13*

Schedule: Each day has a different theme, choose morning or afternoon session).

COVID19 PRECAUTIONS:

No personal belongings are allowed (unless medically necessary and lunch boxes for History Camp).

No water bottles, bottled water will be provided.

Guardians are responsible for delivering and picking up campers at Centennial Village (Art & History Camps) AND the Dacotah Prairie Museum (Spy Camp).

The Dacotah Prairie Museum celebrates 50 years as Brown County’s premier history museum. Over the decades the Museum has been a storehouse for the county’s collective memory and has provided exceptional archival, research, exhibit and educational services. The Museum is housed in the historic Northwestern Bank building built in 1889, a cornerstone of Aberdeen’s vibrant downtown district.

Exhibits on display highlight Brown County's history and the people who lived here past and present. Art exhibits by local artists rotate through the galleries on a regular basis as well as traveling STEM and history exhibits. Finish your visit with a spin through the Museum Store for a fun and memorable takeaway souvenir.
