Title: Introduction to GraphQL and Apollo (Keith Murgic)

Summary:

GraphQL is taking the web development world by storm. Over the past several years, GraphQL has been emerging as an alternative to the REST API standard and has been steadily rising in popularity. Hundreds of tech companies are making the transition from REST to GraphQL including Airbnb, Coursera, Facebook, GitHub, PayPal, and Yelp.

GraphQL solves many of the challenges developers encounter when using REST APIs. It allows fetch requests that would have been made to several endpoints in a REST API to be aggregated into a single GraphQL query. It also gives users the power to fetch exactly the data they need - no more fetching every bit of data about a movie including filming locations and every member of the makeup department just to access the movie's title and thumbnail

In this talk, we will cover the basic differences between GraphQL and a traditional REST API and the pros and cons of transitioning from a RESTful API to a GraphQL API. Then we will dive into a demonstration of building a simple Full-Stack application using Node.js, GraphQL, Apollo, and React.
