How much does the workshop cost?

Admission is $65 per person. To avoid additional processing fees, please pay via e-transfer to earthkeepsottawa@gmail.com. Once payment is received, you will be sent a confirmation email within 24 hours.

What are these made of?

Dorodango is made from clay, silt, sand, and water. There is also a tiny amount of mica powder in the final layer, to give it colour, and a few drops of oil are used to help with polishing.

So is this pottery?

Nope! There is no kiln or heat of any kind. Elbow grease is all you need!

How durable is the finished piece?

More durable than you think! Once dry, a dorodango feels as hard as stone, and can be safely handled without fear of damage. Still, care should be taken not to drop or scratch them. Kept safe from impact and moisture (regular humidity is fine), they can last decades.

Where do the materials you use come from?

Almost all of the dorodango ingredients I collect myself from right here in the national capital region. To get a smoother finish, I add a bit of terracotta pottery clay. The mica powder is purchased from a small business in Timmins, Ontario, called Fizz Fairy.
