About this event

  • 2 hours 30 minutes

Dopereaders Book Club was created as a safe space where a diverse community of book lovers meet and discuss authors, titles, and relevant topics.

With the aim to give the appropriate attention and resonance to Black and BIPOC authors and to share their work, Dopereaders works passionately to bring literacy and a love for words to everyone, concentrating a great part of their attention on young black men, who are statistically left out of the game for no fault of their own.

Join us at Shoreditch Arts Club to discuss author Caleb Azumah Nelson latest title, Small Worlds. The exciting novel by the #1 best-selling, award-winning author of Open Water is set in Ghana and London, exploring the relationship between fathers and sons and the search for meaning through music and dance.

The evening will also screen Caleb Azumah Nelson’s debut short film Pray. Traversing themes of grief, hope, first love, and home, Pray is a portrait of brotherhood that explores the lengths we go for the people we love, how we find joy amidst overwhelming despair, and how community can lift us up. The film was an official selection at the Locarno Film Festival 2023.

Every ticket includes a welcome cocktail.
