Why Domino Family Camp?

Our kids mean the world to us! As multiracial/transracial adopted children, they have often faced social and mental health challenges unique to their backgrounds and identities. When our children connect with peer mentors and other children like them, they learn more about who they are and how they can best navigate their world. As their adoptive parents, we can better support them in their unique journey when we learn and engage with others in the multiracial adoption community.

New this year, we have added an extra night and day to the Domino Family Camp (4 days 3 nights)! This will allow us to add more activities, like a river tube float, and more time for parents and kids to connect with adoptee mentors and speakers. We also will have a "Community BBQ" on Sunday afternoon where the camp families can meet and interact with attendees of the Domino Adult Adoptee Retreat that follows.

Domino Camp is about building the skills we each need to heal our inner anxieties and doubts, empower our families as we face racial issues, and stand strong each and every day. As a multiracial/transracial adoption community, we are always better when we come together--as parents, children, families, and adult adoptees. Connect with mentors, peers, and special guests at Domino Camp as we find Safety in Connection!

For Children & Parents:

Domino Camp features Focal Point adult adoptee mentors of color who will spend the camp teaching, interacting, conversing, and supporting camp families. Stormey Nielsen and Brandon Williams are trained therapists and adult multiracial adoptees who support children, parents, families, and adults. Stormey and Brandon will also be available to converse, answer questions, and support parents at the camp. These mentors are true peers of our children who grew up brown and black in a very white world, just like our own children.

Each day will feature classes in the morning for children and for parents. Parents will learn how to support and advocate for their adopted children of color. Children will learn how to better understand their own background and identity, and how to support themselves emotionally. Afternoons are dedicated to play and adventure around Maple Grove. Evenings feature special speakers and always end with smores around the campfire.

Domino Camp also features self-care expert Raven Ray who will guide us daily with mindfulness exercises and yoga experiences, designed to engage parents and children alike.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Domino Camp is designed for children 5 and older. You are welcome to bring younger children, but they are your responsibility as a parent. Mentors will be with the kids at all times, but they are not lifeguards and not child care--they are there to build relationships of support with the children.

Domino Camp is designed to build community with families like yours—parents learning how to be an empowered parent of kids of color, kids supported by mentors of color, connecting and reflecting with other kids like them, and all of us building trusted relationships together. Each day features good food at every meal, activities in and out of the water, crafts, play, and collective time where we find Safety in Connection!

Directions to Maple Grove

While there are 3 ways to access the property, we only recommend one access - Please use HW 34 at mile marker 29. Whatever maps app you use (Google Maps, Apple Maps, etc), please assure that the directions keep you on highway 34 and NOT highway 36 (leading to a high clearance non-maintained dirt road).

At HW 34, mile marker 29, you will turn right pass the mailboxes and a second quick right to head downriver on a dirt road for roughly 3 miles. Watch for "Domino" signs marking the way.
