About this event

Doctor Who on the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) is the world’s longest running science fiction television series, which marked its 60th Anniversary in 2023 with three special episodes screened worldwide. How has this legendary series evolved over the 875 episodes screened so far to become one of the BBC's best known and most profitable brands? From introducing the world to the Doctor in the TARDIS — to the hero who battles such creatures as Daleks, Cybermen, and Weeping Angels — it's time to explore the highs, lows, and reboots of this epic series like never before.

Join New York Adventure Club for a two-part series that uncovers the full history of the Dr. Who series. In Part Two: The Revived Series, we follow the show through the wilderness years and its revival in 2005 to the present series made in association with Disney.

Led by award winning London Blue Badge Tourist Guide Nick Salmond, our deep dive and analysis of this iconic brand — surrounding an old man traveling through the universe in a blue box — will include:

  • What happened after the 1989 cancellation, and the efforts fans made to keep the brand alive
  • The 1996 TV Movie made by Fox in an attempt to re-version the series for the American market — and how that attempt ultimately failed
  • The story of the company Big Finish, who won the rights to produce new audio adventures in 1998
  • A look at the events leading up to the return of the series to BBC Television in 2005
  • The global success of the series culminating in a global screening of the 50th Anniversary story in 2013
  • The continuation of the series including the casting of the first female Doctor
  • The future of Doctor Who following its 60th Anniversary

Afterward, we'll have a Q&A with Nick — any and all questions are welcomed and encouraged!
