"The most important key to increasing receptivity to our work is to extend our work beyond critique to offer genuine alternatives to the blind spots, ideologies, unacknowledged moral commitments, and overstated objectivism that we identify….For all the value of critique, by itself, it is unlikely to foster transformation. We need to reformulate psychological theory and practice to move beyond the mistakes and half-baked views that hamstring our discipline." (Fowers, 2015)

Dear colleagues,

As we look back on our division’s history and forward to the future, we hope to encourage reflection, critique, and collaboration from diverse voices. We are excited to announce that the Division 24 Midwinter Meeting offers a unique opportunity for scholars, researchers, and practitioners to forge meaningful collaborations as we build on the work of our predecessors. Taking advantage of this opportunity, we can honor our predecessors’ contributions while bringing together new perspectives to enable a flourishing theoretical and philosophical psychology.

We are excited to announce the call for proposals for this year's conference, in which we hope to explore and inspire evolving and reflective discourse within and beyond the discipline of theoretical and philosophical psychology. With this in mind, our conference aims to clarify our identity as a diverse yet united scholarly community and develop our unique capacities as theoretical and philosophical psychologists such that we can make helpful and accessible contributions to the wider field of psychology. We encourage submissions that explore theoretical and philosophical frameworks, empirical studies, practical applications, and innovative methodologies that contribute to reflective discourse and collaboration within the field of psychology.

We look forward to your insightful contributions and vibrant discussions at this year's conference. Together, let us come together as a diverse community united in propelling theoretical and philosophical psychology forward, opening new horizons of knowledge and fostering the flourishing of our communities and those of the human family.

Our Goals for this Conference:

- Promoting diversity and unity within our community of theoretical psychology.

- Exploring the best ways to foster interdisciplinary dialogue with those outside of our discipline.

- Encouraging dialogue around developing solutions to ‘real-world’ problems affecting our communities.

Proposals should seek to answer the following and similar questions

- How do we build on each other’s work?

- How do we foster productive interdisciplinary discourse between theoretical and philosophical psychology and other fields?

- What does it mean to be a united community as we continue to encourage diversity of thought?

The Society for Theoretical and Philosophical Psychology (STPP) engages the philosophical, metatheoretical, historical and ethical dimensions of psychology from a broadly interdisciplinary perspective. To this purpose, it facilitates informed exploration, discussion and critical examination not only of psychological theories and topics, but of psychology’s larger role and identity in relation to other fields of study and practice. This inquiry reflects diverse perspectives regarding ontological, epistemological, ethical and critical issues, the forms of which extend to conceptual, speculative, theoretical, empirical, clinical, historical, literary, cultural and political realms (among others). Within the American Psychological Association, STPP is known as Division 24.
