About this event

Residents of the incorporated area of Hayward can bring up to five (5) cubic yards, the equivalent of one pick-up truck full of household items, including furniture, mattresses, and appliances, to the City of Hayward's transfer station, for free disposal.

This program is open to residents of the incorporated area of the City of Hayward only, proof of residency is required to participate. Unincorporated Hayward areas such as Fairview and Cherryland, and nearby cities such as San Leandro, San Lorenzo, Castro Valley, Union City are NOT eligible to participate in this program and should not register. Registrations with addresses outside of the incorporated area of Hayward will be cancelled automatically. Residents of the unincorporated areas of Hayward can find service provider information at the bottom of this page.) Disposal Days are the second Saturday of February, April, June, August, October, and December rain or shine 7:00am - 12:00pm. Registration opens two weeks prior to the event date. Preregistration is required to participate. Space is limited, one registration per household.

Items not accepted at the transfer station:

  • Hazardous materials, including paint, motor oil, solvents, cleaners, pesticides or car batteries, and car tires.
  • Items over 75 pounds (except furniture and appliances)
  • Medical waste
  • Construction or demolition debris
  • Rocks
  • Bricks
  • Dirt
  • Concrete

Unincorporated Hayward residents (including Fairview and Cherryland) fall under the jurisdiction of Alameda County and the Oro Loma Sanitary District. As a customer of Oro Loma Sanitary District, you have free waste services available to you including two (2) free bulky item pick-ups per calendar year. How do I know if my address is in Incorporated Hayward versus Unincorporated Hayward?

You can look up your address at webmap.hayward-ca.gov . Use the "search address" field. Under "Jurisdiction" if you see City of Hayward, you are in the Incorporated are of Hayward. If you see Alameda County, you are in the Unincorporated area of Hayward and ineligible to participate.

Can I bring a refrigerator or freezer?

Yes. Major appliances such as washers and dryers, water heaters, refrigerators are accepted for recycling.

Can I bring exercise equipment?

Yes. Not exceeding 75 pounds.

Can I bring carpet?
