CanDev and the Internet Archive are excited to announce an upcoming game jam using the unique assets contained in thousands of CD-Roms preserved on the Internet Archive.

Game designers are encouraged to use the DiscMaster archive to create a game over the course of a week that uses vintage computer files and assets including images, textures, and audio.

The DiscMaster archives contains CD-roms such as “1,078 Weird Textures” (1996), “Galaxy of Home Office Help – Fonts” (1997), “999 WAVs for Windows” (1993), “The Ultimate Button Collection” (1995) and thousands more.

Participating teams will be assigned a collection of assets to use as a starting point and inspiration, and are encouraged to dive deep into the DiscMaster archives. Videos and other supporting resources are supplied to get you started.

Industry judges will be selecting multiple winning entries in different categories based on the proportion of DiscMaster assets used and the implementation of the game jam theme: media preservation. Winners will receive cash prizes from a pool of $1,750 USD sponsored by the Internet Archive.

The game jam is open to all participants globally online and will kick off on April 21st at noon in Canberra Australia, and April 20th at 7pm in San Francisco, USA.
