Join our esteemed instructors, David Christensen (ThM, DMin), founder and president of The Rephidim Project, and Russ Cotnoir, retired pastor and founder of First Light, for this transformative seminar designed to equip pastors and preachers with practical strategies for applying and illustrating biblical texts in ways that deeply resonate with today's listeners. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn how to deliver impactful messages that the Holy Spirit can use to shape individuals into devoted disciples of Christ.

Seminar Description

In today's world, spiritual formation and disciple-making are pivotal topics, with entire ministries dedicated to these themes. But what do they truly mean from a biblical perspective? While much emphasis is placed on individualized discipleship, the role of preaching in shaping disciples is often overlooked.

Expository preaching seeks to transform believers into Christlike disciples through effective applications and powerful illustrations relative to the biblical text. But how can we draw contemporary life parallels that help Christians become obedient followers of Jesus Christ? The skill of applying ancient texts to the modern world is one that can be developed. It requires hard work and creative insight to demonstrate the relevance of Scripture in our lives today.

This seminar will equip you with a strategy for applying and illustrating biblical texts for today's listeners. Participants will learn practical steps to preach messages the Holy Spirit can use to shape individuals into disciples of Christ. Join us to discover how to make your preaching a vital part of the disciple-making process.

Instructors

David Christensen (ThM, DMin), President, The Rephidim Project

David served in dual ministry for thirty years as a Bible college professor and local church pastor. He is the founder of The Rephidim Project, a ministry devoted to encouraging and equipping pastors for expository preaching. David is the author of seven books including, A Philosophy of Pastoral Preaching: Shepherding God’s People with God’s Word in One Place. He retired as preaching pastor of Galilee Baptist Church in 2018 to devote himself to encouraging pastors, missionaries, and church leaders through Bible exposition and teaching the methods of expository preaching to the next generation of preachers.

Russ Cotnoir , Director of Pastoral Resources, The Rephidim Project

After 34 years of ministry, Russ retired as the senior pastor at Fayette Baptist Church in Fayette, Maine. He was called to Fayette in 1988 during his junior year at New England Bible College and soon after received his BS degree with a major in Bible. He is also the founder of First Light, a daily radio ministry aired on WBCI 105.9 FM, which has broadcast his sermons since 1996 and has become the longest running Maine-based program since WBCI began throughout central Maine and New England. Russ’s heartfelt passion is to communicate biblical truth in a relevant way in order to effect spiritual change through his pulpit and teaching ministry, podcasts, First Light radio messages as well as speaking engagements at churches and events, retreats, and various conferences.

Organized by

The Rephidim Project exists to mobilize, equip and encourage pastors worldwide with a blueprint for expositional preaching that produces Christlike believers by the power of the Holy Spirit to the glory of God.

It is a collaborative effort to bring expository preaching resources and training to pastors, church leaders and those who have a call to preach.

The Rephidim Project leads seminars and establishes cohorts to train preachers to be more effective expositors of God’s Word.

Seminars are one-day events that can be either a good jump start on preaching for those with limited training or a refresher for those who have previously studied homiletics in the classroom. Some of our foundational seminars include: Persuasive Preaching, Transformational Preaching, Pericopal Theology: The Method of Transformational Preaching, Pastoral Preaching, and Text-Driven Preaching.

Preaching cohorts are groups of six to eight pastors in a geographical area who covenant together for their continuing education as pastoral preachers. The initial commitment is for eight gatherings in twenty-four months. Cohorts are collaborative learning experiences designed to help pastors become more effective in their local settings. Pastors learn from one another and encourage one another as they hone their skills in pastoral preaching. Our vision is to establish cohorts of pastors who covenant together to develop and improve their skills in expository preaching through joint workshops, mutual encouragement, and personal accountability.
