This is event is sponsored by theChesapeake Potomac Regional Chapter of the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry, a group of local environmental scientistsworking in government, industry, private sector (e.g., consulting) and academic jobs.Serving the Chesapeake-Potomac Region (Maryland, DC, Virginia, and West Virginia), our chapter provides a professional forum for individuals who are engaged in the study and analysis and solutions for environmental problems, management and regulation of natural resources, and/or research and development.  We facilitate networking and educational opportunities for scientific professionals, mentoring and career guidance for students, and environmental education and outreach for the public.

Do you find bees interesting? Wildlife Biologist <A HREF="https://profile.usgs.gov/sdroege" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Sam Droege</A> certainly does. He is currently working on an inventory and monitoring program of native bees at the USGS Patuxent Wildlife Research Center. Join Sam and a group of local scientists for dinner while he presents: A 20 minute overview of the native bees and their issues in the region:  What do you know about the 430 species in Maryland?

About the Speaker 
Sam Droege grew up in Hyattsville, received an undergraduate degree at the University of Maryland and a Master’s at the State University of New York – Syracuse.  Most of his career has been spent at the USGS Patuxent Wildlife Research Center.  He has coordinated the North American Breeding Bird Survey Program, developed the North American Amphibian Monitoring Program, the Bioblitz, Cricket Crawl, and FrogwatchUSA programs and worked on the design and evaluation of monitoring programs.  Currently he is developing an inventory and monitoring program for native bees, online identification guides for North American bees at <A HREF="http://www.discoverlife.org/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">www.discoverlife.org</A>, and with Eric Ross reviving the North American Bird Phenology Program.
