About the event

When the COVID-19 pandemic began in New York City, Mike, Grandma's Kitchen's cook, was managing a Food Pantry. While many Food Pantries in the city closed down during the pandemic, his remained open despite concerns for their own staff's safety as the virus was not yet understood at all. Mike journeyed into Manhattan each day wearing a hazmat suit and a scarf wrapped around his face, hoping for the best.

It was during this time that we became aware of the work of World Central Kitchen. They quickly began providing hot meals to the Food Pantry that were able to be distributed to the community.

Grandma's Kitchen did a fundraiser for World Central Kitchen and another organization in March 2022, soon after the war in Ukraine began. After that fundraiser and with the support of our community, we were able to donate $1770!

This benefit dinner will feature a Five Course Dinner and Hors D'Oeuvres based on recipes from The World Central Kitchen Cookbook: Feeding Humanity, Feeding Hope by Chef José Andrés and World Central Kitchen.

About World Central Kitchen

Founded in 2010 by Chef José Andrés, World Central Kitchen (WCK) is a nonprofit organization that is first to the frontlines providing fresh meals in response to crises. Applying our model of quick action, leveraging local resources, and adapting in real time, WCK has served more than 350 million nourishing meals around the world.

When disaster strikes, WCK’s Relief Team mobilizes with the urgency of now to start cooking and serving meals to people in need. By partnering with organizations on the ground and activating a network of local restaurants, food trucks, or emergency kitchens, WCK serves comforting meals to survivors of disasters quickly and effectively. To support regional economies, WCK prioritizes purchasing local ingredients to cook with or distribute directly to families in need.

We know that good food provides not only nourishment, but also comfort and hope, especially in times of crisis. Learn more at wck.org.
