DigitalCrafts is hosting its first Hackathon on Friday, June 17 from 9:00am-5:00pm EST. Teams of 4-5 builders (max of 25 participants) will work together over Zoom to create a functioning website for the City of Refuge (COR) mentorship program, a resource that pairs active students in the web development program with volunteer mentors from various businesses in Atlanta, GA. This program provides students with additional support and continuous networking throughout the 16 week full-time class. There is a current mentee/mentor pairing process in place, however, they are looking to enhance this current support program so that it may continue to positively impact students' lives.
Participating in this event allows you to:
- Provide support to a non profit organization who is working each day to transform the lives of individuals and families out of crisis
- Operate in a scrum environment with a product manager, GitHub project board, standup and Agile workflow
- Work within a team setting with new people who have a range of skillsets (web dev, cyber, UX)
- Become exposed to different programs and coding techniques to enhance your current skill sets
- Network with senior, mid and entry level developers, such as current students, instructors and alumni
- Learn and test new ideas using critical thinking, problem solving and open communication
- Enhance your portfolio and resume by working to create a functioning website through active participation during the event
This event is open to DigitalCrafts web dev, cyber and UX design students who have completed a minimum of 6 weeks of their full-time class, a minimum of 12 weeks of a part-time class or alumni who have graduated from our programs. The goal during this 8 hour event is to create a functioning MVP website for City of Refuge, a faith based organization that helps individuals and families transition out of crisis. We are looking for unique perspectives, fresh ideas when solving technical problems and those who have a passion for helping a non-profit in need.
