You are warmly invited to attend a one-day professional development workshop at Fairholme College, led by Dr Damien Kee, who brings over 20 years of experience in teaching coding and engaging students in robotics.
This hands-on workshop is designed to build your knowledge and confidence in delivering the Australian Curriculum: Digital Technologies (Version 9), with a focus on block-based programming concepts such as:
- Variables
- If/else branching
- Iteration
Workshop Overview
Participants will work with the BBC micro:bit, an affordable and versatile classroom tool that also includes an accessible online simulator for use in any school setting.
During the day, you will:
- Be introduced to the BBC micro:bit
- Create your own scrolling name badge
- Build simple animations (sequencing and iteration)
- Develop a pedometer (using variables)
- Create a digital “8-ball” (branching statements)
- Design a digital dice (branching statements)
- Explore adding peripherals (including neopixels, with an overview of other add-ons)
Along the way, we will explore:
- Using the micro:bit simulator
- Leveraging micro:bits as a data collection tool in the classroom
