Civic leaders and digital literacy practitioners who are committed to ensuring that everyone in the community reaps the benefits of digitally-connected life will convene on May 20 at the Central Library for a morning of discussion, idea-generation and hands-on work.
Building on the success of 2014's Digital Inclusion Summit and 2015's Digital Inclusion Town Hall Meeting, Digital Inclusion KC 2016 will leverage our City’s newfound reputation as a leader in this area to introduce a framework for expanding our impact in the years ahead.

The last few years have seen the federal government heavily involved in digital equity. Windhausen will discuss the recent reform of the federal Lifeline Program as well as the various “Connect” initiatives coming from the White House.

What does it mean to be a “connected community” and how can we work together to advance broadband access, adoption and use?  A key component of the White House’s ConnectALL initiative is the development of a strategic planning framework and self-assessment tool to assist cities working to improve broadband access, advance digital equity and inclusion, institute broadband-positive policies, and align broadband investments with community priorities.
The BroadbandUSA team has invited Kansas City to contribute as an “alpha” community to help test the framework and provide development insight. That conversation starts today at Digital inclusion KC 2016!

Breeden, a lifelong digital equity advocate, will moderate a discussion with participants of digital skill building programs in Kansas City, particularly focused on youth and early adulthood. She will explore ways that these programs prepare younger generations for the workforce.
