Description

Public administration is at a crossroad. New technology brings novel ways of delivering public services. But it also creates new demands. Put simply, citizens want services that meet their needs – delivered to them at machine speed with the tap of an app. They want the public sector to perform and respond as quickly to their demands as the private sector does. And they are ready to roll up their sleeves and take part in this effort, leading to new forms of citizen-state collaboration and giving rise to a new generation of fit-for-purpose services.

At the heart of this movement are two crucial trends: Co-Creation (the process in which consumers of public services are transformed into co-producers, using data analytics and direct input to ensure those services are the best on offer and the ones people need) and Interoperability (the complex process that molds data and services from different cities and countries into a user-friendly whole, allowing citizens of one country to access their services in another).

At this high-level summit, local leaders, government CIOs, European Commission officials and top researchers come together in Milan’s historic Triennale Design Museum for a half day of brainstorming, sharing experience and working together at the cutting edge of digital government. Taking place on the closing day of Milan Digital Week, the discussion will be informed by The State of Co-Creation, a ground-breaking new policy brief based on a comprehensive survey of more than 1000 public administrations in six countries and an online dashboard tracking the state of co-creation in all 27 European Union countries.
