This 2-Day class, Digital Assistant Camera Training for features, TV and commercials workshop is designed to grow the local Indiana film and television production workforce. Using a Hollywood influenced Midwest industry perspective, it will prepare “job-ready” 1st Assistant Camera, 2nd Assistant Camera and Data Managers to work on feature films, episodic television and commercials. Training will include an overview of job responsibilities, hands-on practical application of common tasks, purpose and function of camera equipment and expendables as well as an explanation of the variances of working on features, television and commercials.

This in-depth course will cover:

  • An introduction to the film and camera department as well as phases of film and tv production.
  • Detailed responsibilities of both the1st and 2nd assistant camera roles on a production.
  • Data Management
  • Gear and Resources
  • Camera package prep/wrap
  • Where to find work and personal safeguards on the job
  • Open gear session with cameras and equipment

The ideal participants should come prepared knowing the basic fundamentals of camera components and settings and have a basic familiarity with common motion picture cameras.

This workshop is being hosted by Roberts Camera and will feature equipment from Canon, Sony, Smallrig, Accsoon, Promaster, Kondor Blue and more!

SPEAKER BIOS

Austin Webster is a Midwestern camera operator, 1st Assistant Camera, and Nanlite Midwest Ambassador. He has worked in Los Angeles, Atlanta, and across the Midwest for the past 3 years in various roles across camera and grip & electrical departments. Austin has trained numerous assistant cameras from unexperienced to 2nd, 2nd to 1st, and unexperienced green to 1st. Pulling focus is one of his favorite aspects of filmmaking, and something that he considers to be a crucial cornerstone to cinematography and submerging the viewer into a different reality.


Joe Frank, currently based in Indianapolis, initially entered the film industry at a small production company located in Fishers and Noblesville. He steadily rose to the position of full-time Director of Photography. Transitioning to full-time freelance work in 2021, he has since lent his skills as a DP and camera operator to a diverse array of projects, including narrative films, music videos, documentaries, and commercial advertisements. Having worked as both AC and DP, Joe sees the connection between the roles as integral, recognizing the importance of a cohesive team for delivering high-quality work in this dynamic field.


Lindsay D. Mitchell is an accomplished DIT (Digital Imaging Technician) and data manager with over 15 years of experience in the field of video production. Her journey in the industry began by data managing on local broadcast commercial shoots, where she quickly developed a reputation for her meticulous attention to detail and technical expertise.

Lindsay’s data management career has been marked by significant highlights, including her role as a DIT on the feature film "So Cold the River." Her responsibilities included utilizing industry-standard software such as ShotPut Pro to securely transfer and back up footage and creating accurate proxies for post production.

Additionally, Lindsay's expertise extended to her work as a digital imaging technician on the popular Discovery Channel Reality TV show “Alaskan Bush People" from 2019 to 2021. On this production, she worked nights to download cards from 4 cameras and back up all footage to LTO tapes.

Lindsay’s proficiency in her skills has been instrumental in maintaining efficiency and accuracy throughout her career in data management.

Currently, Lindsay is expanding her creative horizon as a Director, DP (Director of Photography), and Editor at Scofield Digital Storytelling. This multi-faceted role allows her to utilize her extensive technical knowledge while also exploring her artistic vision.

Jennifer A. Haire is a Line Producer and DGA Production Manager with professional feature film and television experience since 1999. Her work includes domestic and international productions with budgets ranging from a few hundred thousand to hundreds of million and a diverse mix of feature films, episodic television, documentaries, game shows, and other short formats. A proud “Fighting Pickle” she is a graduate of the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. Jennifer is committed to giving back to the industry and has served on the Board of Directors for IATSE Local 871 and the Producers Guild of America. Her educational initiatives include the development and execution of a multi-year, domestic and international film and television production crew training program, production safety and risk management programs for PGA producing team members and domestic workforce development programs on production management and the production office. Recently she co-authored, “Keys to the Production Office, Unlocking Success as an Office Production Assistant in Film and Television” the first film & television production handbook dedicated to production office operations and the role of the Office Production Assistant. A former 19-year resident of Los Angeles, Jennifer now resides in Carmel, Indiana.
