The Southern Jewish Resource Network for Gender & Sexual Diversity (SOJOURN) is the American South's resource for Jewish & LGBTQ+ programming, education, support, and advocacy. Our mission is to advance LGBTQ+ affirmation and empowerment across the South.Rebecca Stapel-Wax has worked with non-profits throughout her career. She attended Clark University in Worcester, MA. For 15 years she ran residential, respite and communications for agencies working with adults with developmental disabilities. Rebecca has her master's degree in counseling and has had an interest in suicide prevention since she was a teen when she worked on a Samariteen Hotline. In 2004 Rebecca became the director of The Rainbow Center, now the Southern Jewish Resource Network for Gender and Sexual Diversity (SOJOURN).Rebecca, along with many volunteers, has trained thousands of youth, educators, parents, clergy, and advocates to build inclusive communities. She has built curricula for rural southern communities to address the increased rates risks of suicide that gay and transgender people experience.Rebecca has a Masters Degree in Counseling and is a Nationally Certified Counselor. She specializes in working with LGBTQ people, people who have HIV, and those who have substance use/abuse issues.

In light of recent current events, it is more important than ever to courageously engage in honest and meaningful conversations with those around us. We all have beliefs, values and a plethora of opinions and if we allow those opinions to close down our ability to hear, it is unlikely that any change can occur between two people. In this introductory, experiential workshop, Alexandria and McKenzie will show you how to improve your listening skills and ask powerful questions to help create courageous conversations.

Alexandria Barabin Harris and McKenzie Wren have been working with groups of people to have conversations  about race, bias, education and inclusion for numerous years. They believe that listening may not solve every problem but good listening creates the conditions to be able to learn from each other, understand hopes and fears and help something new emerge. This powerful workshop will help you deepen your impact by improving your communication skills.
