Dialectical Behavior Training Skills Group
Learn how to manage intense emotions, tolerate distress without making things worse, and reduce self-destructive behaviors!
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a specialized and evidence-based treatment approach that focuses on teaching skills to manage overwhelming and intense emotions, without resorting to self-destructive behaviors or decisions. These include strategies for mindfulness, distress tolerance, acceptance, emotional regulation and interpersonal functioning. Each week new skills are taught, and participants are given the opportunity to practice using those skills with guidance from a therapist and support from the group. Due to the nature of the program, participants must show a level of commitment in order to participate in the skills group. Participants are expected to attend all scheduled group and individual sessions unless planned with the therapist ahead of time.
The skills in DBT have been proven to expand a person’s ability to interact more effectively with others while also improving their ability to manage their emotions effectively, thus helping to enhance their overall well-being. These skills are crucial for all people to learn.
DBT is practical, collaborative and adaptable. The strategies and tools that are part of the bigger therapeutic model can also be effective when used on their own.
