DFPS is hosting virtual listening sessions to learn ways to improve access to behavioral health services for youth in DFPS care and youth at risk of coming into care. Behavioral health services include in-patient and out-patient mental health and substance use services.

DFPS staff wants to hear and learn from you about:

  • What is working well.
  • What is not working.
  • Your experiences with learning about and getting behavioral health services for youth.
  • Your ideas on how to improve behavioral health services for youth.

Who should attend:

  • Youth who have used behavioral health services in Texas
  • Family members and caregivers of youth in DFPS care
  • Providers of behavioral health services for youth in DFPS care
  • Service agencies and organizations that work with the behavioral health system in other ways

Why is DFPS holding this listening session?

DFPS is in the process of creating a strategic approach to addressing the behavioral health needs of youth in DFPS care and is seeking statewide feedback that will help guide state agencies in providing behavioral health services that meet the needs of youth in DFPS care.

What is behavioral health?

"Behavioral health services" refers to services that treat and promote the health and recovery of people with mental health and substance use conditions like depression, severe emotional disturbance in children, post-traumatic stress, and alcohol/drug addiction.

Will I have other ways to provide input?

Yes. DFPS will also collect input through an online form. More information and the link will be available on the DFPS Behavioral Health webpage soon.

Will this session help me enroll in services or benefits?

This session is not for enrolling in services, only to provide feedback on your experiences accessing, receiving, or providing services and supports.
