Midtown Heart of the Arts

HOTA envisions a place in which creativity and artistic expression are defining characteristics of the urban experience. That means more artists working in our district and more arts experiences for the Midtown community.

Join artist in residence and curator Patricia Hernandez for the opening of Devoted, an exhibition showcasing the work of artists who are mothers. This exhibit will explore the many topics of motherhood, what it means to be a mother, and the experience of artists who are moms. You’ll be able to hear directly from Hernandez and featured guests in a panel discussion about these themes. The gallery will open at 5pm. Panel discussion scheduled to begin at 6pm.Panelists include: <ul><li>Marian Liou, Director of Community Engagement and the Arts, Atlanta Regional Commission; Founder and Former Executive Director, We Love BuHi</li><li>Lauren Pallotta Stumberg, Owner, Think Greatly LLC; Artist, Designer, Creative Constultant </li><li>Liz Turcotte Peña , Co-Founder, Frankie &amp; Marley Productions; Co-Producer, Mystic District Marketplace + Hi-Five Supper Club</li></ul>The exhibit features artwork by:Angela Bortone, Jessica Caldas, Julie Fordham, Christina Kwan, Monica Morales, Elly Pagan, Lauren Pallotta, JoAnna Smith, Laura Vela, and Christina Ward.Artwork and other unique merch will be available for purchase. All sales will directly benefit the artists. Please note: This exhibit is in a historic building and guests will climb a flight of stairs to enter the building. We have made arrangements for a digital experience for those with mobility impairments. Please indicate your interest in this accommodation when you register and a member of our team will follow up with you.

Getting Here:Heart of the Arts studios are located at Coda Midtown in the Crum &amp; Forster Building, at the corner of Spring Street and Armistead Place.Coda Midtown is located less than a half mile from North Avenue MARTA Station. As always, we encourage walking, biking, rideshare, or the use of public transit.Parking is available for an hourly rate in the Coda garage, accessible from 4th Street. There is also nearby metered street parking along Spring Street.About Patricia HernandezPatricia Hernandez is a LATINX/ Mayan diaspora artist, creator and owner of PATL.SV. She is a cultural organizer and self-taught artist, who portrays her Latinx culture, Indigenous ancestry, and immigrant experience through paintings, murals and illustrations. Born and raised in El Salvador, Patricia brought her stories and culture with her to Atlanta where she would build a new life for herself and her 2 boys. She is dedicated to strengthening the local, Latinx creative community and using art as a tool to bring people together, raise awareness about social justice issues, and amplify BIPOC creatives.<a href="https://www.midtownatl.com/about/programs-and-projects/capital-improvements/heart-of-the-arts/hota-artist-residency-program/patricia-hernandez-bio" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Learn more about Patricia and her work.</a>Midtown Heart of the ArtsPatricia’s studio in the Crum &amp; Forster Building at Coda Midtown is gifted to her for a year and made possible by partnership between Portman Holdings and Midtown Alliance. By creating space and opportunities for artists to work in Midtown, the Heart of the Arts Residency Program generates publicly accessible artwork and arts experiences for the whole community.
