Frequently asked questions

How is each Flight played?

Each Flight is played in a timed, Round-Robin format meaning you will play a minimum of three 35-minute, "no-ad" matches. The winners of the Round Robin phase play Tie-Breakers to determine the overall winner of the flight.

Is there free, secure parking?

Yes! We will have an Attendant monitoring the parking lot.

Are refreshments provided for players?

Yes, snacks and beverages are included free of charge!

Are the start times for each Flight guaranteed?

We will endeavor to play as close as possible to the published schedule, but weather, court grooming and other unforeseen circumstances could impact it.

Is the court surface clay or hard?

Metropolitan Racquet Club is proud to have 6 beautifully maintained clay courts with lines that have no nails, similar to the ones used at the French Open in Paris.

Is there seating for spectators?

Yes! In addition to our porch, we are working with the City of Detroit to get some bleachers for our spectators.

Is there anything to do other than play in the tournament?

Yes! We will have an area set up so that anyone can test their serve speed with a radar gun. No special skill needed. See how you compare with your friends! There is a nominal fee for this game, with prizes for each category!

Is this tournament sanctioned by the USTA?

No, this is not a sanctioned USTA event. While SEMTA is sponsoring and publicizing the event, there are no USTA points earned, nor will it affect your USTA ranking in any way.

How does a team sign up for Doubles flights?

Each ticket is for one person. So, either sign up at the same time on a single registration and increase the number of tickets to 2 (and enter the contact info for both people), or sign up individually and put your partner's name in the Comments box so we pair you up in the Draw.
