Designing a QI Project

IHQC is dedicated to improving the quality and accessibility of healthcare. Our mission is to optimize the capacity of California safety net organizations to provide high quality healthcare by advancing their ability to engage and sustain quality improvement initiatives, instill an organizational culture of quality improvement, and improve their readiness for an expanded role in integrated healthcare delivery environments. Institute for High Quality Care (IHQC)

Need to launch a new QI project in the new year but not sure where to begin? Join us for this half-day virtual workshop!

Leveraging IHQC’s Project Design Checklist, participants in this half-day learning lab will review key steps and templates they can use to help them create comprehensive, actionable project plans for their QI projects. Designing a QI Project explores 4 aspects of the project planning process:<ol><li>Reviewing organizational priorities</li><li>Understanding the current state and root cause analysis</li><li>Mapping out your project theory of change</li><li>Creating your project plan</li></ol> By working through these critical design stages, teams will be better equipped to:<ul><li>Assess the current state to ensure they understand any underlying challenges/problems that are impacting processes and care delivery;</li><li>Prioritize their change ideas and create a clear vision and theory of change for their initiative;</li><li>Draft a project plan with SMART goals, impact measures, and clarity on team roles and responsibilities.</li></ul> Participants will also gain access to IHQC tools and templates, including IHQC's Checklist for Planning and Designing a QI Project, root cause analysis tools like fishbone diagrams &amp; driver diagrams, and other project plan templates. We will also review approaches for keeping this QI work fun and engaging. Designing a QI Project is open to all staff members from safety net/community clinics, public hospitals, county health systems, and other organizations, including health plans. While IHQC makes every effort to proceed with scheduled programming, we require a minimum of 10 registrants to launch a virtual program and a minimum of 15 registrants for in-person programs. Registrants will be notified and refunded in case of a change in schedule or a necessary cancellation on IHQC's part.
