The Lost Type Co-op is visiting Salt Lake City for a one-of-a-kind event series:

#FieldTripSLC

Dan Gneiding rides the blue wind high and free as a designer, illustrator, teacher and typographer at Grayhood. He's gladly put his nose to the grind stone for Urban Outfitters, Anthropologie, Baseman Design Associates, Flux Labs and (of course) Lost Type.

What do you do when a project lands on your desk and the timeline is measured in minutes rather than days? This workshop will help prepare you for these inevitable situations and show you ways of using pattern, color and materials for rapid image making.

The goal of this workshop is to show you how a little bit of preparation can help keep experimentation part of the design process even under a tight deadline. There will be demonstrations of techniques that embrace spontaneity and play in your designs. This workshop will give you the know-how to create fun, thoughtful work, delivered on time.

This workshop will cover:

Lessons learned working and thriving in fast paced work environments
How working fast helps at a full time job
How working fast helps you take on more freelance
How working fast helps you say yes to more fun/personal projects
Building out a toolkit for working quickly: patterns, textures, and color pallettes
Creating your own clip art library
Embracing different tools for image generation: photo copier, cut paper, brush pens, etc.

Q&A

Required materials:

Laptop
Your favorite drawing supplies

We will provide cutting mats, x-acto blades, scissors, glue various patterned paper and access to a scanner/copy machine.

Sales are final, but tickets are transferrable—if you cannot attend, find a friend to take your place!

The Lost Type Co-op is a collaborative digital type foundry. Since 2011, Lost Type has been a source for unique typefaces, with a collection of over 50 different faces from contributors all over the world. 100% of the funds from sales of these fonts go directly to their respective designers. Lost Type fonts have been used across the world, and recently have been featured in projects for Nike, Starbucks, Disney and the President of the United States.
