The Basics of Indian Cooking

You hear it all the time, Where is all the good Indian food in Portland? Well the answer could be, in your kitchen!

Making good Indian food takes time, patience, and a little elbow grease, but it’s something all well within your reach.

With the right tools and a basic understanding of spices, you can create a really fantastic Indian meal in your own kitchen.

Join us for a class on de-mystifying spices, understand the basics of curry building, and make some of these incredible dishes at home. We’ll talk about how to setup a basic Indian pantry. We’ll teach you how to make truly flavorful Indian food, the best way to layer spices, and how to make adjustments to recipes to suit your own tastes.

This three-hour class will include dinner and recipes to take home and recreate the dishes.

Classes available Friday(11/14) or Saturday (11/15)

7:00-10:00 PM

Cost: $50 (plus $3.74 processing fees)

About the Chef:

Kusuma Rao is a chef focusing on spice driven fare. She hosts Indian fusion popup dinners in Portland and Tucson. She’s most inspired when connecting with enthusiastic eaters and loves to wax romantically about the glories of well-made Indian food. Inspired by ingredients in the kitchen and her desert home, she works tirelessly to create works of art on every plate. She is a personal chef, cooking instructor, and in-home caterer.
