What It Means to Practise in a Regulated Profession

Demystifying Regulation

Join us online to see what it looks like to practise under a regulator.

For many practitioners, regulation raises important questions—and sometimes concerns—about accountability, complaints, and professional autonomy.

In this session, Deborah Adams, the CEO and Registrar of the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO), will provide a practical overview of how regulation works in a fully established context. Participants will learn how regulatory colleges differ from professional associations, and how regulators are structured to serve the public while being held to standards of fairness, transparency, and accountability.

The session will also explore how complaint processes function in practice, including the role of proportionality, right-touch regulation, and due process, highlighting how these systems support both public protection and procedural fairness for practitioners.

This is an opportunity to better understand the regulatory context and feel more informed and prepared as Alberta works toward regulation.
