Defining Research Education Tasks: Strategies for Translating Research Proj...
Fri, April 7, 2017, 10:00 AM – 11:30 AM MDT
Dr. Tony Gonzalez, a Clinical Associate Professor with the Freshman Research Initiative (FRI) in the College of Natural Sciences at UT Austin.
The purpose of this workshop is to adapt the key experiments or projects of your research goal into plans that allow students to learn and practice the research tasks and skills necessary to carry out projects and generate data. This should result in a “research task flowchart”, a guide to help organize the curriculum of your course around your research projects. In particular, we will consider as key features of the flowchart: 1) ways to contextualize for students the research tasks and skills and 2) strategies for students to build proficiency with these tasks and skills in order to make progress on research projects.
