<P>Join us for a very special Virtual Reality (VR) Documentary Workshop that features a hands-on approach to the new world of VR, discussing current tools, emerging techniques and methodologies, as well as the ethical concerns of this rapidly evolving medium. This daylong workshop is specifically designed to give nonfiction filmmakers practical knowledge in every major aspect of crafting VR in documentary, from how to use this growing technology to tell a story to developing effective strategies for distribution and engagement / outreach campaigns.</P>
<P>Led by Molly Eagan, Jeff Fitzsimmons, Kelly Fitzsimmons, Brad Lichtenstein, and Julie Young, the team behind the Planned Parenthood collaboration <EM>Across the Line</EM>, which premiered at Sundance and was shown at SXSW, Tribeca and a host of other film festivals in 2016, the workshop will guide you through the new world of VR while building upon frameworks and vernacular common to documentary filmmaking. Get a deeper understanding of what VR is and is not; how documentary techniques and goals can translate to this new medium; and accelerate your learning curve so that you can begin creating projects in the VR documentary space.</P>
<P>Built into the workshop will be a generous amount of time for Q&A. We also invite you to join us downstairs at the Arts District Brewery for peer to peer networking after the workshop.</P>
<P>When you register for the workshop you will also receive access to the Impact Hub from 10am to 5pm on Friday, April 22 to experience a range of dynamic VR works. Confirmed so far:</P>
<P><EM>Across the Line</EM><BR> This penetrating, immersive documentary uses a combination of live footage, volumetric capture, and a montage of real audio, to give the viewer an on-the-ground experience of what it is like to directly confront anti-abortion extremists trying to intimidate patients seeking sexual and reproductive health care at Planned Parenthood.</P>
<P><EM>Kiya</EM><BR> This harrowing, animated reenactment tells the story of a real-life domestic violence homicide in which two sisters engage in a doomed struggle to save the third from being shot and killed by her ex-boyfriend. With audio from the 911 calls, and utilizing imagery captured at the real event, Kiya puts you at the scene of the crime, thereby transforming the audiences from viewers to active witnesses.</P>

<DIV CLASS="biotext">Molly Eagan is currently the Vice President of Planned Parenthood Patient & Employee Experience at Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA). She is responsible for launching Care In Action | Planned Parenthood Experience, a new national strategic initiative to dramatically improve both patient and employee experience across Planned Parenthood nationally. Ms. Eagan received an M.P.H. from Columbia University with a focus on domestic women’s health issues, and an M.P.A. also from Columbia with a concentration in health policy.</DIV>

His work-life has gone from pioneering video maker in Seattle's grunge scene to founder of HarQen—a next-generation voice technology company. He created Sony’s massive Playstation tradeshow booth and has been chief creative officer for Caffeine Communications—a guerilla marketing firm.</DIV>

She is also the co-founder of the Hypervoice Consortium, which researches the future of voice communications. Previously, she was the co-founder and CEO of HarQen. In 2011, the Angel Capital Association awarded her the Silvertip PwC Entrepreneurship Award. In 2013, Speech Technology magazine honored her with the Luminary Award.</DIV>

<DIV CLASS="biotext">Julie Young is a Producer at Emblematic Group, a virtual reality company based in Los Angeles. She has worked on several room-scale VR experiences including <EM>Project Syria</EM> (Sundance 2015), <EM>Kiya</EM> (Sundance 2016), <EM>Across the Line</EM> (Sundance 2016), and <EM>Formula-1</EM> (Singapore Grand Prix 2015). Prior to working at Emblematic Group, Julie was an Associate Producer on the 2012 Frontline documentary Fast Times at <EM>West Philly High</EM>. She has also worked at Goldman Sachs and The Motley Fool. Julie is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, where she studied economics at The Wharton School.</DIV>
