Description

Encryption has become widely available to the public, with smart phones that can be locked and messaging apps that encrypt communications. Law enforcement has called for ways to access encrypted information in order to protect public safety and national security while critics have raised practical and legal objections including the likely ineffectiveness of such measures and risks to cybersecurity and civil liberties. The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine invites you to attend a webinar highlighting our new report, Decrypting the Encryption Debate: A Framework for Decision Makers, on February 15, 2018 at 11am EST. Study chair Fred Cate will discuss the options and tradeoffs associated with mechanisms to provide government agencies with access to encrypted information and describe a framework for decision makers to better inform the policy debate.
