What is a Death Café?

Death Café is an international movement started in Europe. At a Death Café, people gather to eat cake, drink tea, and discuss death in a relaxed, open setting. A Death Café is a group directed discussion of death with no agenda, objective, or themes. It is a discussion group, rather than a grief support or counseling session. We recognize that dying is a part of life and our volunteers can support the dying and their loved ones through:

  • Bereavement support to those in need
  • Music and other therapeutic practices
  • The creation of spaces where the dying and their family can be together when home is not an option
  • Community education
