The Newburyport Documentary Film Festival is held every September in a charming seaport village 40 minutes north of Boston. For 21 years we have been committed to bringing the highest caliber documentary films to our community. Since 2004 we have been bringing the highest caliber documentary films to our community. In addition to weekend screenings at historic venues, we also hold filmmaker receptions, after-parties, panel discussions, Q&As, and workshops.

A JOURNEY WITH MAGNUM PHOTOGRAPHER THOMAS HOEPKERJUST ADDED: Special guestWe are excited to announce that Christine Kruchen, wife of the Magnum photographer Thomas Hoepker, will be joining us for the East Coast premiere of DEAR MEMORIES, Thursday at the Firehouse Center for the Arts. Reception at 6pm, film at 7. DEAR MEMORIES is the moving story of Hoepker&#x27;s struggle with Alzheimer&#x27;s disease as he and Christine make one last cross-country photography trip across America. The trip is an echo of the landmark excursion the world-renowned photojournalist took in the early 1960s, which was documented in his book HEARTLAND. Both trips are represented in Hoepker&#x27;s latest book, THE WAY IT WAS: ROAD TRIPS USA.For photography enthusiasts, road-trippers, and those whose lives have been affected by loved ones with memory loss, DEAR MEMORIES is a poignant meditation on chance encounters, keeping a record of your travels, and doing the thing you love.

Glenn founded the Social Documentary Network (SDN) in 2008 as a web platform for a global community of documentary photographers. In 2015, Ruga launched ZEKE: The Magazine of Global Documentary, a print and digital magazine presenting the best stories from the Social Documentary Network. In 2012, Glenn was one of three curators of the New York Photo Festival. From 2010-2013, he was the executive director of the Photographic Resource Center (PRC) at Boston University.

Eric opened Digital Silver Imaging (DSI) in 2008 and has established his lab as one of the premier fine art printing companies in the US. Prior to starting his company, he worked with both Kodak and Ilford through the digital evolution. His company has helped pioneer the digital to black & white silver gelatin print process and today has a trademark DSI Digital Silver Print® process.

Eric Luden

Christine Kruchen, wife of the Magnum photographer Thomas Hoepker will be joining us. Christine is bringing a signed copy of the new book, which we will raffle off at the screening.

James is the program director for the NBPT Docu Fest, author of five books, and a longtime Boston Globe contributor. He teaches in the Journalism department at Emerson College and is the co-founder of Lit Crawl Boston.
