Event description

Description

How a society views death and how it deals with the practical problem of what to do with its dead is very revealing. There are always Philosophical and attitudinal issues around disposal of the dead, but at least as important are the practical matters relating to Public Health and Finance.

This lecture will look at how various civilisations have approached the many issues. The aim is to explore some of the Medical and Social implications and the wide spectrum of possibilities in relation to bodily disposal. Starting in the Neolithic period; moving on to the present day and with a glimpse of potential future choices.

Join William G.J. Edwards, curator at the Gordon Museum, for this fascinating talk.

Doors will open at 6:30 PM.

*Access is through a 52-step spiral staircase.
