Deaf CAHMS 101 - Mental Health Issues in Deaf Children and Young People

Workshop 1 (02.07.24 - 18:30-20:30)

The workshop will focus on mental health issues in deaf children and young people, and interpreter training.

Dr Sophie Roberts, a consultant psychiatrist with Deaf Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services, will be leading the workshop. She is part of a specialized CAMHS team that caters to Deaf Children and Families in the Northern region, offering expert assessments and interventions. The team consists of both Deaf and hearing staff members who are bilingual and bicultural. Dr Roberts has expertise in British Sign Language and a keen interest in children with attachment issues and developmental trauma impacting their mental health.

The workshop will cover topics such as mental health problems in deaf children, including issues like mental illness, attachment, trauma, how to recognise them and strategies for support.
