Join us for a night queering poetry to celebrate the launch of Abhainn Connolly's debut collection DEADNAME, released by Write Bloody UK.

J﻿oin Irish American poet Abhainn Connolly and special guests for a night of poetry in North Portland, Oregon. This will be the American book launch for Abhainn&#x27;s debut poetry collection DEADNAME. They will be joined by British poet Rebecca Faulkner for a poetry reading that you won&#x27;t want to miss! Think less polite clapping, quiet sipping, and more raucous dancing, shot taking, dollar bill waving, with some awe-inspiring words and performances mixed in. Emcee Annika Howland is sure to keep you entertained all along the way.This event is FREE! D﻿EADNAME and other merch will be available for purchase, and local Portland business Momtaro Apotheca will have free samples for the first round of attendees to arrive!No one will be turned away for not RSVPing, so let anyone you&#x27;d like tag along with you the night of! The more the merrier. Your RSVP just helps us plan in advance. Thank you!A﻿bout DEADNAMESo much of life is made of little deaths and rebirths. We all, at some point in our lives, are forced to leave a life or love behind; we must lose who we thought we were in favour of who we are. Often this ruptures, causing a mess. We don’t do it perfectly. In some stories we’re called the villain, and in others, the victim. What does it mean to be called something? And what does it mean to choose what you’re called? How do we hold the duality of harm and healing? What does it feel like to step into a reinvention of self, one that may not yet be fully structured? DEADNAME is a collection of poems that shares the coming of age of one trans and queer person in the new millennia, yet echoes across all identities to show how embracing the liberating and revelatory act of queer love and transition can not only free queer people, but all of us.A﻿ccessibilityW﻿aypost does not have any stairs to entry and offers plenty of accessible seating. There are stairs, however, to use the restroom. P﻿lease let us know if you or anyone who will be attending with you would benefit from sign language interpretation or captioning for the event. T﻿his will likely be an event that has loud music, lights, and hoots and hollers. There is an outdoor seating area where you can escape the stimulation for as long as you need. W﻿aypost is a bar, though we fully support and love our sober comrades. Our aim is to make it as sober-friendly as possible, and encourage a space where everyone&#x27;s choices and needs are celebrated. Please keep an eye on your intoxication levels - if you are making the space feel unsafe in any way and are nebulous in your consent practices, you won&#x27;t have a nice time when we hear of it.R﻿acism, homophobia, transphobia, sexism, xenophobia, all the gnarly stuff can be checked at the door, or you will be chucked out of it.
