The manual can be ordered directly through Guilford Press or Amazon.***

Course Overview
DBT STEPS-E is a comprehensive social-emotional learning program for K-5 students, teaching emotion regulation, coping, interpersonal, and decision-making skills. It integrates into general education classrooms and supports special education and multi-tiered systems. The manual offers two curricula (K-2 and 3-5) with teaching scripts, examples, handouts, and worksheets, aligning with the CASEL framework and promoting a "whole child" approach.

Booster Training Learning Objectives
Participants will…
1. Understand the sequence of the curricula and how it can be adapted to fit their setting.
2. Understand how to use the DBT STEPS-E manual to prepare and deliver SEL lessons to classroom and small group settings.
3. Understand how to use a DBT STEPS-E (grades 3-5) diary card as a progress monitoring tool with students in the classroom setting.
4. Understand the concept of “both sides thinking” (dialectics and dialectical thinking).
5. Be able to lead students through a mindfulness exercise and process the relevance of the exercise with students.
6. Understand and practice the teaching of the Wise mind goes to SEA, or Wise mind takes a SEAT lesson.
7. Understand and practice teaching one skill from the interpersonal effectiveness module.
8. Be able to identify and address the common barriers to effective implementation.
9. Be able to use the DBT STEPS-E manual to prepare and teach the lessons to the students using a variety of teaching strategies.
Meet Your Trainers…
Dr. Kate Odom, Psy.D.
Kate Odom, Psy.D., is a licensed clinical psychologist specializing in complex trauma, high-risk, and high-conflict populations. Kate has provided therapy, assessment, and consultation to children, adolescents, and their families in a variety of settings, including schools, community mental health, and primary care settings. Kate has been involved with DBT through facilitating skills groups since 2009 and is certified in other evidence-based modalities such as TF-CBT, CBITS, Motivational Interviewing, and AF-CBT. Additionally, Kate enjoys providing clinical supervision to young professionals. Kate is a proud graduate of Colorado State University and earned her Doctor of Psychology at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. Although Kate practiced for over a decade on the West Coast, she finds herself back in Chicago and is the executive director of Odom Psychology and Consulting.
Paul Reinert, PhD
Paul Reinert, PhD, is currently an Assistant Professor in Educational Leadership at Wilkes University in Wilkes-Barre, PA. Before joining the Wilkes faculty, Paul worked in public education for 34 years as a high school and junior high school science teacher, middle-level school counselor, and K-12 administrator at the elementary, middle, high school, and central office levels. During his time at Wilkes, Paul taught a variety of educational leadership courses at both the master's and doctoral levels. In addition, Paul teaches a wellness and resilience course to first-year students that is built on the DBT-STEPS curriculum. Paul has been a member of the DBT in Schools team since the spring of 2019, offering trainings around the country in the DBT STEPS-A curriculum. Paul holds a B.S. from the University of Scranton, Secondary Education/General Science; an M.S. from the University of Scranton, School Counseling; a Secondary Principal’s Certification from Marywood University; and a Ph.D. from Marywood University, Human Development with a Specialization in Education Administration.
