Come join DEFA's upland team for a magical morning at Cross Vein where we will be serenaded by the beautiful melodies of the dawn chorus. This in-person event is a wonderful opportunity to connect with nature in the Southern uplands and experience the peaceful tranquility of the early morning hours.
This site has been selected as it is home to a long-running but low-key project involving DEFA and its land tenants to improve habitats for wildlife alongside sustainable agriculture and land use. We will touch on various elements of our work, including natural flood management and habitat improvement. Please wear weather appropriate clothing and stout footwear. Subtle coloured clothing is also essential as the less we stand out as a group, the more likely we are to blend in with our surroundings. Bring any water, snacks, and sun cream that you may need.
All viewing will be from selected roadside viewpoints, which you will be free to walk between. You may bring a chair and don’t forget your binoculars. If you don’t have access to binoculars, DEFA will ensure that you can borrow a pair at some stage during the site visit. There will be limited opportunities for less abled people to view from a vehicle or wheelchair, however if you wish to do so please do let us know in advance so we can ensure adequate/priority parking.
