David Redd
Singer, songwriter, poet mixing a little bit of everything—but we can just call it rock & roll.
A David Redd set feels like flipping through a worn out journal you found on the street, the offbeat seasons of a stranger’s life unfolding right in front of you.
The music is an eclectic blend of an essayist’s pen through a post-modern indie prism, mixing folk, soul, funk, jazz, country and psychedelia into what used to just call Rock & Roll.
Having risen through the New York folk scene, David became a staple at LA's famed Hotel Cafe, either holding court as an eloquent yet cutting singer-songwriter or with his band of all star players — cats with touring credits like Clairo, Vulfpeck, Grace Potter, Brett Dennen, and Train.
Doing things the old fashioned way, they laid down his debut LP Somewhere Else live at Boulevard Recording (The War On Drugs) creating a textured indie dreamscape to surround the pristine sound of a classic rock & roll band.
After a few years of Pandemic-era introspection, David made his way back to the studio, band in tow, led again by Grammy-Nominated Producer Justin Glasco (Paris Paloma, The Lone Bellow). He emerged last year with the album “Love Is Everything & It Will Not Save You,” a diverse storybook of songs that finds Redd exploring cynicism and hope and what it means to be an adult, while coming into his own as a writer and performer of deep wit and impressive range.
