The Artists Archives of the Western Reserve is proud to continue their series of “Artist Studio Tours,” programs designed to give the general public and art enthusiasts a personal glimpse at the innovative world of area artists. In addition to showcasing how and where an artist creates, these programs also aid artists by allowing them to practice communicating about their work or demonstrating their process in a relaxed and familiar atmosphere.
As part of our 20th Anniversary Founder’s Exhibition, the Artists Archives is hosting private tours of Founder David E. Davis’ studio and a selection of the other early supporting artists. The series concludes with a tour of AAWR and Sculpture Center founder and master sculptor David E. Davis’ studio on Saturday, December 3rd. 1:00-2:30pm. One of the region’s most celebrated artists and the recipient of the 1980 Cleveland Arts Prize, Davis has been described as a “high modernist… keeping faith with ideas of beauty, aesthetics, and timeless universal content.” He spent nearly forty years creating a large, impressive sculptural oeuvre distinguished by its pervasive quality, variety, visual intelligence, and originality.
