Join us at the closing of our <A HREF="http://2019.datathroughdesign.com/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Data Through Design</A> exhibition for a lively conversation on data, cities, art, and design. The evening's program will feature an opportunity to hear directly from <A HREF="http://2019.datathroughdesign.com/exhibition" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">exhibiting DxD artists</A> about their process and experience working with open data as a creative medium, followed by a panel discussion featuring <A HREF="http://2019.datathroughdesign.com/talks" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">expert speakers across disciplines</A> around our theme for the evening: "Everything is a Proxy".

Artist Roundtable Discussion + Q&A:
As part of the Data x Design exhibition we want to provide a platform for our audience and community to hear directly from artists about their experience working with civic data as a medium and/or responding to civic data as a muse. Learn more about our artists’ creative process of working with civic data, and about their take on the value of cultural expression in the context of technology and the city. This roundtable discussion and Q + A will encourage audience questions and involvement in the conversation.

"Everything is a Proxy" Panel Theme:
Proxies in data models are used when we are unable to capture the complexity of a phenomenon of interest. It is difficult and quite often impossible, for example, to quantify (or even qualify) things like happiness or livability, yet we try to model those concepts with data like number of trees or household income. The ways that these proxies come together to score our cities, our neighborhoods, our friends, and ourselves can be dangerous and misleading.
But proxies can also be fun and make you smile and act as a bridge between unconnectable things. In this event, we ask our speakers to reflect on and share with us their stories and data projects that speak to the proxies of the unrepresentable value of our city and its citizens.
