Data Through Design: Opening Reception

The organizing team would like to thank: The Made in NY Media Center for generously hosting the exhibit. The Mayor's Office of Data Analytics for their event and data support.

Pratt SAVI | CARTO | Enigma

As part of Open Data Week, Pratt SAVI, CARTO and Enigma invited artists, designers, coders, technologists, engineers, architects, and citizens alike to submit a work of art based on a dataset from the NYC Open Data portal.  
The theme of the exhibit is 8 Questions for the City and the artists’ work answers questions like:

<LI CLASS="MsoNormal">What does the urban jungle look like?</LI>
<LI CLASS="MsoNormal">What consequences do our choices about zoning have for the people traveling our streets?</LI>
<LI CLASS="MsoNormal">What do NYC civil servants do?</LI>
<LI CLASS="MsoNormal">How can we make sure we are interpreting our data in ways that help us truly understand what’s going on in our city?</LI>
</UL>
 
Collectively, these works will reveal insights from a cumulative whole and what stories can emerge from data.
Artists: Mathura Govindarajan, Jill Hubley, So Yeon Jeong, Ye Eun Jeong, David Lockard, Jeremy Neiman, Seungmin Ellen Oh, James Proctor and Pitch Interactive, Juan Francisco Saldarriaga, Steven Sanchez, and TWO-N.

The exhibit is hosted at Made in NY Media Center March 3rd-10th: Weekends 10-6:00, Weekdays 9-7:00. The opening reception is Friday, March 2nd, 6:00-8:00 pm. Please note that NY Media Center will be closed on Sunday, March 4th. 
 
The mission of Data through Design and <A HREF="https://www.open-data.nyc/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Open Data Week</A>, a city-wide endeavor by the NYC Mayor’s Office of Data Analytics, is to encourage a wider knowledge of New York City’s open datasets and how these resources can enable better public understanding of what is happening in NYC’s neighborhoods, schools, streets, and parks.
