Event description

Description

It’s been a year and a half since Data & Society’s official launch event in NYC. It’s time to gather the D&S community again. On May 17, we’re hosting a conference on the dilemmas and prospects of practicing tech.

Data & Society: Practice and Challenge will bring together D&S researchers, friends, and family to hear from doers, investors, journalists, activists — people involved from different angles in the practice of technology — about what they’re working on and, importantly, why. What are the challenges they face in thoughtfully building the sociotechnical world of today and tomorrow? And then we’ll be joined by more of the community and continue the conversation, D&S style, with a party.

1:00-5:00 — The talks.

Confirmed speakers include: danah boyd; Mandy Brown; Cindy Cohn; Anil Dash; Nadia Heninger; Kati London; Nancy Lublin; Andrew McLaughlin; Tanya Menendez; Youngna Park; Claudia Perlich; Yancey Strickler; and Clive Thompson.

5:00-9:00 — The reception.

Featuring art by Ingrid Burrington, Sam Lavigne, Mimi Onuoha, Allison Parrish, and Angie Waller, curated by Ingrid Burrington and Mimi Onuoha.

RSVP required. Register above.

Please note that the talks are by-invite only, space being (alas) finite. If you did not receive an invite to the talks, don't despair! We want to hang out with you at the reception, for which you can register here.
