We have prepared two talks for you.  Agenda: 17.00 Doors Open 17.30 Jekaterina Kokatjuhha, Research Engineer <A HREF="https://www.facebook.com/zalando/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Zalando</A> - Building data science project from scratch 18:00 Rasmus Rothe, CTO &amp; co-founder at <A HREF="https://www.facebook.com/merantix/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Merantix</A> - Applying deep learning to real-world problems  18.45 Q&A, discussion, and networking until about 19.30 Topics: 1) "Building data science project from scratch" by Jekaterina Kokatjuhha, Research Engineer at <A HREF="https://www.facebook.com/zalando/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Zalando</A> About the talk: How to design a good data science project from scratch based on a real world dataset. As a showcase project Jekaterina will present the analysis of the rental prices for apartments in Berlin. This talk will guide you through all the steps of a short-term data science project: motivation, extraction of data from the web, cleaning and engineering of features using external APIs, storytelling, and building machine learning models. It will be shown how human judgment can be applied in order to engineer new features from of the apartment’s address using google API. In the end several machine learning models will be used to explore the idea of bagging and of stacked models. About Jekaterina: She is a Research Engineer at Zalando, focusing on scalable machine learning for fraud prediction. Currently projects she is involved are the transfer learning and domain adaptation for cold start learning. Jekaterina obtained a masters degree in bioinformatics from FU Berlin and worked in various research institutions across Europe such as the Charité Hospital in Berlin, the Centre for Genomics Regulations in Barcelona and at Manchester University. 2) "Applying deep learning to real-world problems" by Rasmus Rothe, CTO &amp; co-founder at <A HREF="https://www.facebook.com/merantix/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Merantix</A> About the talk: Though research has shown that deep learning can work really well these days, applying it to real-world problems is often much harder than you might think. In his talk, Rasmus will give an overview about the key challenges when applying deep learning in industry. Many of the insights are a results of his work at Merantix, a Berlin-based venture studio using deep learning in health (automating radiological workflow), finance (automated trading) and automotive (testing autonomous driving systems). About Rasmus: He is a co-founder and CTO at Merantix. He obtained a PhD while studying computer science with a focus on (deep) machine learning at Oxford, Princeton and ETH Zurich. He founded HackZurich, which became the biggest hackathon in Europe, scaled a deep learning powered service to 150m users and previously worked at Google and BCG.
