Data Driven Storytelling: A Deep Dive into Visualization Techniques

The American Association for the Advancement of Scienceis an international non-profit organization dedicated to advancing science for the benefit of all people.AAAS Science & Technology Policy Fellowships(STPF) provide opportunities to outstanding scientists and engineers to learn first-hand about policymaking and contribute their knowledge and analytical skills in the policy realm. Fellows serve yearlong assignments in the federal government and represent a broad range of backgrounds, disciplines, and career stages. Each year, STPF adds to a growing corps over 3,000 strong of policy-savvy leaders working across academia, government, nonprofits, and industry to serve the nation and citizens around the world.TheSouth Big Data Innovation Huband theWest Big Data Innovation Hubbuild and strengthen partnerships across industry, academia, nonprofits, and government to address societal and scientific challenges. The hubs are part of a network of four regional Big Data Hubs launched by the National Science Foundation and funded in part by host universities and other partners. TheSouth Hubserves 16 states and the District of Columbia and is managed jointly by two co-executive directors at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the Georgia Institute of Technology. TheWest Hubrepresents 13 western states and is led by a team from the University of California at Berkeley, University of Washington, and University of California at San Diego.TheNational Consortium for Data Science(NCDS) is a collaboration of leaders in academia, industry and government formed to address the data challenges and opportunities of the 21st century. The NCDS functions as a mechanism to help the U.S. take advantage of the ever-increasing flow of digital data in ways that result in new jobs and industries, advances in healthcare, transformative discoveries in science, and competitive advantages for industries.

The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Science & Technology Policy Fellowship Big Data Affinity Group, in collaboration with the South Big Data Innovation Hub, West Big Data Innovation Hub, and The National Consortium for Data Science, invite you to a data visualization and storytelling event July 14, 2017 from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm ET in Washington, DC. The meeting brings together a community of policymakers and data storytellers to visualize insights from data that generate effective communication.
