Data Analysis and Flood Resilience Policy in San Francisco
Data is a friend. The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC) has being taking advantage of digital information to inform the City’s policy for residents of flood prone areas. This presentation will illustrate how the City used hydraulic and hydrologic data to delineate, through Python and ArcGIS, the boundary within which new regulation related to flooding will apply. Furthermore, it will show how Python’s Seaborn Library was employed to explore and visualize the data set of properties affected by the new regulation.
Edoardo Saba is a planner and urban designer with focused experience in stormwater management, flood resilience and GIS analysis. He currently works at PARSONS as a program management consultant for the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC). Prior to his current job, Edoardo worked as an urban designer in northern Europe and in Italy. He holds a Master in City Planning from MIT, and a Master in Urban Design from Università Roma Tre, Italy.
