Bring an item that needs darning, and learn how to do it yourself! We recommend basic hand sewing skills, but this is a beginner class.

NE Seattle Tool Library

Darning 101! Everyone will bring an item of theirs that they would like to darn and after a tutorial, we will each work on our own item for the remainder of the class with instructor supervision. This class is a beginner's class, but it will help to have BASIC hand sewing skills. This class will also teach people how to DIY darning mushrooms out of glass jars and various household items.If you have a darning needle and/or a darning mushroom/egg, please bring it so we can teach you how to use your tools!About the instructor, Marlee Blue: Marlee has been mending clothes for a number of years. They are passionate about sustainability and keeping things out of the landfill. They work in landscaping and so their clothes are in constant need of mending, which they've learned to do skillfully and efficiently.This class is a part of our <a href="http://seattlereconomy.org/events/list/?tribe-bar-search=%22Fabrics+and+Fibers%22" title="http://seattlereconomy.org/events/list/?tribe-bar-search=%22Fabrics+and+Fibers%22" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Fabrics and Fibers Skill Series</a>, which includes 12 classes and 1 event that hope to give you the opportunity to learn a variety of textile-based skills. Please choose the level that best fits your family’s income.ACCESSIBILITY:<ul><li>Much of the NE Seattle Tool Library interior is wheelchair accessible. All entrances have ramps that may exceed a 5 degree slope. The all-gender restroom is quite small and not ADA compliant.</li><li>Non-English and ASL interpreters are not provided at our classes and events, however attendees are welcome to bring their own interpreters.</li><li>Please contact us with any accessibility notes or requests.</li></ul>GETTING THERE:<ul><li>By transit: Served by King County Metro bus <a href="https://kingcounty.gov/en/dept/metro/routes-and-service/schedules-and-maps/372.html" title="https://kingcounty.gov/en/dept/metro/routes-and-service/schedules-and-maps/372.html" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">route 372</a> stopping along Lake City Way NE at NE 98th St. <a href="https://kingcounty.gov/en/dept/metro/routes-and-service/schedules-and-maps/061.html" title="https://kingcounty.gov/en/dept/metro/routes-and-service/schedules-and-maps/061.html" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Route 61</a> stops at NE Northgate Way &amp; 23rd Ave NE and is a ½ mile walk from the tool library.</li><li>By bike: There are multiple bicycle route options available to the tool library, and you are welcome to stow your bicycle inside the tool library during your visit.</li><li>Car parking: There is a gravel parking lot that fits about 10 cars, and an asphalt parking lot that fits 5 cars. There is no ADA accessible parking.</li></ul>Children are welcome at some classes with their parent or guardian on a case-by-case basis, either as a student or as an observer. If you would like your child to attend a class with you, please email info@seattlereconomy.org with their age and experience. Let us know if they will be a student or an observer, the name and date of the class, and we will determine if it is appropriate.
