Overview
Connect with indigenous culture through traditional Aztec dance and music in Los Angeles. Play the huehuetl & learn the steps. Open to all!
Welcome to the weekly community practice of Ritual Azteca Inc! We gather every Tuesday and Thursday to preserve, teach, and practice traditional indigenous Mesoamerican culture through authentic dance, music, and art. Whether you are looking to reconnect with your heritage, learn a beautiful cultural tradition, or experience the powerful rhythm of the traditional huehuetl drum, our circle is open to you. No prior dance experience is required to join.
What We Do
- Cultural Grounding & Opening: Every practice begins with a traditional opening to ground our space and honor ancestral history.
- Step & Movement Breakdown: Beginners will learn basic steps, posture, and coordination, while experienced danzantes focus on advanced choreography.
- Traditional Music: Move directly to the live rhythm of the huehuetl (drum) and learn the relationship between the music and the dance steps.
What to Bring & Wear
- Clothing: Wear comfortable, flexible workout clothing (such as t-shirts, sweatpants, or leggings) that allows you to move freely.
- Footwear: Feel free to dance barefoot if you'd like, many of us do. Supportive sneakers or athletic shoes are optional.
- Hydration: Please bring a refillable water bottle to stay hydrated during practice.
